Tuberculosis is an infectious disease that most commonly affects the lungs.
It is caused by a type of bacteria that spreads through the air when infected people cough, sneeze or spit.
COMMON SYMPTOMS:
- Prolonged cough (sometimes with blood);
- Weight loss;
- Chest pain ;
- Fever ;
- Severe fatigue;
- Night sweats.
PREVENTION:
- See a doctor if you have these symptoms, as early treatment can help stop the spread of the disease and improve your chances of recovery;
- Get tested for tuberculosis if you are in contact with people with tuberculosis in your home or workplace;
- If preventive treatment is prescribed to you, follow it until its end;
- If you have tuberculosis: avoid contact with other people, wear a mask, cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze, and dispose of sputum and used tissues properly.
