TUBERCULOSIS: A PREVENTABLE AND CUREABLE DISEASE

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease that most commonly affects the lungs.

It is caused by a type of bacteria that spreads through the air when infected people cough, sneeze or spit.

COMMON SYMPTOMS:

  • Prolonged cough (sometimes with blood);
  • Weight loss;
  • Chest pain ;
  • Fever ;
  • Severe fatigue;
  • Night sweats.

PREVENTION:

  1. See a doctor if you have these symptoms, as early treatment can help stop the spread of the disease and improve your chances of recovery;
  2. Get tested for tuberculosis if you are in contact with people with tuberculosis in your home or workplace;
  3. If preventive treatment is prescribed to you, follow it until its end;
  4. If you have tuberculosis: avoid contact with other people, wear a mask, cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze, and dispose of sputum and used tissues properly.
