SOME TIPS FOR STAYING HEALTHY IN SUMMER

Summer is synonymous with sun, vacations, good humor and pleasant moments spent with loved ones or family. To better enjoy the summer, here are some common sense health tips that help you avoid unpleasant surprises due to negligence.

  1. Protect yourself from the sun: Wear clothing (light, light-colored and covering), a hat and sunglasses, apply a suitable sunscreen while making sure to reapply it every two hours, and avoid any exposure between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. if possible.
  2. Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water to compensate for the loss caused by the heat (8 glasses/day) and favor fruits containing a lot of water such as watermelon or melons.
  3. Eat healthy foods: Eat water-rich foods like cucumber, salad, strawberries, oranges, cantaloupe, and spinach. Carrots, tomatoes and yellow or orange vegetables contain beta-carotene which promotes tanning and thus helps protect the skin against the sun.
  4. Stay cool in extreme heat: Extreme heat can be dangerous especially for the elderly, vulnerable and people with chronic illnesses. Do not hesitate to close the shutters and windows during the day and ventilate the house at night.
  5. Pay attention to bathing water: Be careful with bathing water whether you are at the sea or in the mountains, because lakes, rivers and the sea can be contaminated by various pollutants. Choose locations where water quality is safe. As soon as you get out of the water, dry your skin well with a towel.
  6. Protect yourself from mosquitoes: Wear covering clothing, use repellents and install a mosquito net before sleeping. If the light in your room is on, consider closing the windows, as mosquitoes like light and warmth.
